2025 Grand List Motor Vehicle Appeal Form
March appeal forms can be emailed or faxed. The deadline to file a March session appeal is February 20th annually. Completed September motor vehicle assessment appeal forms are brought with you the day the meeting is scheduled. All September motor vehicle appeals are heard on a first come first serve basis. If you have any questions, please contact Board Secretary Michele Ososki regarding your appeal.
Overview
Board members are elected in odd-numbered years at the municipal election. The position consists of a two-year term.
Current members were elected in November, 2023. The Board of Assessment Appeals was known as the Board of Tax Review until October, 1995. (click the underlined link below to access the item).
Please note §12-110 and §12-111 indicate annually only Regular motor vehicle assessment appeals are heard in the month of September and only Real Estate, Personal Property and Supplemental motor vehicle assessment appeals are heard in the month of March.
When filing any appeal, you should provide documentation supporting your case. Examples for real estate are an appraisal or list of sold properties from the revaluation year you believe best represent your property value. Effective October 1st 2024 Motor vehicle appeals must include the Manufacturer Suggested Retail Price (M.S.R.P.), vehicle photos, and any other information you believe documents your case. Personal Property must include IRS capitalized fixed asset list, asset acquisition balance sheet data, photos and any other documentation that supports your dispute.

New Motor Vehicle Legislation Effective 10/1/2024
Board of Assessment Appeals pursuant to Section 12-117a of the CT General Statutes:
• Motor vehicles are assessed based on MSRP without factors such as high mileage, salvage vehicles, and rebuilt titles.
• The only grounds for appeal for a taxpayer is if the Assessor did not base the assessment from the vehicle’s MSRP.
• Vehicle owners may appeal the MSRP determination to the Board of Assessment Appeals at their next successive meeting.
Public Act 24-1 initiates a new motor vehicle depreciation schedule pursuant to Section 12-63 of the CT General Statutes:
